The Robots of Kabukicho
As we walked down a few flights of stairs through a descending bright corridor of glitter, mirrors, multi colored lights, and photos of women in camouflage wielding machine guns, I wasn’t sure what to expect. An evening spent at the Robot Restaurant, located in a basement in the heart of Tokyo’s infamous Kabukuchi district, is an evening of sensory overload. A evening where cabaret style entertainment meets Japanese pop culture; where scantly dressed women and power rangers battle robots and monsters under laser lights to a mind-bending soundtrack of high-pitched voices, taiko drums, and techno beats.
